About URJO

At URJO, we turn our age back when we’re forty. This age brings menopause. Menopause, as is well known, gives rise to discomforts not experienced earlier. But that is only a physiological state of being. At social level the women is confronted with another unforeseen jolt. The familial tie that besotted her all these years suddenly seem to loosen. The off springs grow out into independent adults. The erstwhile indispensable grand lady of the house abruptly begins to miss her position. Her need in the family seems to wane. Her next to kin even do not find time to interact with her.

Left out by all her near and dear ones, she plunges into loneliness. The face that once bubbled with life leaves only a grimace. She feels too exhausted. This is experienced by almost all women, more so with housewives, necessarily cut off from outer world. Atomized existence in today’s world aggravates her condition all the more. If not dealt with care this apparently petty personal problem may snowball into a social disaster.

URJO was established in 2007 with a goal to reassure and restore self confidence in women of midlife crisis. URJO is a voluntary organization and the word literally means “Power”. We emphasize the power within women, notwithstanding our ignorance of it.

URJO also renders medical advice and guidance needed, in this regard with the help of the doctor members of Kolkata Menopause Society. Awareness program in different communities and schools with girl students is convened by our members.

The major activities include among others Public awareness programs, Health camps, Meditation and Yoga Camps for society as well as for members, Vocational training for women and destitute children, Donations for various social causes, Fund collection for disaster management, Care for elderly and providing quality time to the elderly and destitute children.

URJO is registered with U/S I2A Income Tax Act and U/S 80 G (vi) Income Tax Act 1961 wherein all donations are 50% tax exempt.
