Urjo celebrated Christmas with Mashimas of Apanghar

Urjo celebrated Christmas on 22nd December,2023 with Mashimas of Apanghar. A few members paid a visit and spent some quality time with them. They also distributed sweets & other delicious treats and Goodie bags with personal items.

Pediatric Health Camp and Diwali Celebration

Urjo conducted its 5th Pediatric Health Camp for 40 homeless girls (upto 15 years) at Aashiyana Happy Home, Madhyamgram,on Friday, 10th November, 2023,10 am onwards. Dr Sutapa Konar, a paediatrician of repute (and volunteering for Urjo's Health Camps)

Durga Puja celebrations with a visit to The Refuge, on Bowbazar Street

Urjo concluded its Durga Puja celebrations on 6th October, 2023 with a visit to The Refuge, on Bowbazar Street, Kolkata and sharing our joy and happiness with elderly ladies (abandoned and homeless and picked up from the streets). Some of the highlights were:

Free Pediatric Medical Camp for Homeless Children

Urjo conducted its second event for Puja, a Free Pediatric Medical Camp for homeless children (upto 15 years) at *SOS Village, Salt Lake,on Tuesday, 3rd October, 2023, 4pm onwards. The highlights of the event were as follows:

1. Dr Sutapa Konar, a pediatrician of repute (and volunteering for Urjo's Health Camps) conducted the paediatric check up. Twenty one girls and boys ( below 15 years with majority being girls) were checked by Dr Konar and free medicines were distributed. The common ailments were anaemia, dental problems, cough and cold, being underweight and bed wetting.

Urjo's first event for Puja

Urjo's first event for Puja was held on 30th September, 2023 at Apanghar, Thakurpukur. Urjo members handed over saris to Mashimas of Apanghar, distributed snacks and spent quality time with them. It was rewarding to see the smiling faces of Mashimas.

Urjo's AGM for FY 2023-24

Urjo had its AGM for FY 2023-24 on 23rd September, 2023 at MAGS, Salt Lake. 27 members attended and the meeting was very interactive and fruitful. Dr Ratnabali Chakraborty, Founder & Ex President , gave the Inaugural Address and Smt Ratna Mitra, Founder Member & Ex President, delivered a Special Address.

Urjo conducted a Health Camp for homeless children (upto 15 years) at SOS Village, Salt Lake,on Tuesday, 5th September, 2023, 4pm onwards. Dr Sutapa Konar, a paediatrician of repute (and volunteering for Urjo's Health Camps) and Urjo volunteers conducted the programme.

Health Camp for underprivileged children was held on Friday,28th July,2023

The Health Camp for underprivileged children was held on Friday,28th July,2023 at Deara, Rajarhat,a village adopted by SOS. 45 kids, all below the age of 12 years (who were accompanied by their mothers), were examined by Dr Sutapa Konar and free medicines were distributed. The Camp was conducted successfully in spite of adversities like heavy showers, narrow approach roads and poor infrastructure facilities.

Urjo organised an Eye Camp on 23rd July,2023, at Paikpara

Urjo organised an Eye Camp on 23rd July,2023, at Paikpara 3rd Row in association with the local club. Dr Moumita Roy with her team did eye check up for 30 under privileged children in the locality. Some were advised immediate computerised eye check up and others regular half yearly check ups due to serious myopia.

Free Cataract Surgery Camp for Apanghar Mashimas

Urjo organised the Cataract Surgery Camp for Apanghar Mashimas. Four of them were taken to the Calcutta Lions Bimal Poddar Eye Hospital on 5th July,2023 for check up and tests. Three were advised surgery. On 7th July, cataract surgery was successfully done on two Mashimas ( since one Mashima was indisposed and was advised to do the surgery at a later date).

Paediatric Health Camp

Urjo organised its Second Paediatric Health Camp for young girls( upto the age of 15 years) at Aashiyana Happy Home, a home for the homeless, located in Madhyamgram, on 23rd June,2023. There were 40 girls and check up was done by Dr. Sutapa Konar, a renowned paediatrician. Free medicines were also distributed to the girls. Discussion was also held for collaboration in future projects.

International Yoga Day (21st June 2023)

URJO , Kolkata Menopause Society along with Bengal Obstetrics and Gynecological Society celebrated International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2023 at Mags Medical Research Centre ,Salt Lake ,Kolkata.

26th May 2023

Urjo organised its First Paediatric Health Camp for young girls( upto the age of 15 years) at Nijoloy, a home for the homeless, located in Madhyamgram, on 26th May,2023. There were 29 girls and check up was done by Dr. Sutapa Konar, a renowned paediatrician. Free medicines and goodies were also distributed to all the boarders.

Vocational Training and Income Generation opportunities for underprivileged girls : Urjo organised tailoring classes for five girls and then disbursed loans to them (to be repaid in instalments), to cater to orders of stitching school uniforms.

5th May 2023

On 5th May, 2023 Urjo members visited Varosha Old Age Home in Birati and had belated Poila Baisakh celebrations with the boarders. We had a wonderful time with the Mashimas...Together we sang bhajans, shyamasangeet and rabindrasangeet.

28th April 2023

On 28th April,2023 Urjo Committee members visited The Refuge, a home for the homeless and destitute people, on Bowbazar Street. It is more than 100 years old and has a girl's and boy's orphanage with 260 children, a primary school and an old age home with 13 residents.

9th April 2023

To celebrate World Health Day,2023, Urjo jointly with Kolkata Menopause Society and Inner Wheel Club, is organised a Health Camp at Apanghar on Sunday,9th April, 2023 . The following tests along with General Health Check up was done for 16 mashimas:

4th April 2023

Urjo organised its 2nd Geriatric Care Attendant Training Programme from 4th to 6th April, 2023. It went off very well and received positive feedback from the participants. The faculty comprised of two doctors, a nurse and a Urjo Committee member. The sessions included lectures, practical training and video presentations.

17th March 2023

Urjo celebrated Women's Day on Friday, 17th March,2023 with mashimas of Apanghar (at Thakurpukur). It was celebrated with a cake and Urjo also donated some grocery items. Boxes ( containing savouries from Mio Amore) was also given to each Mashima by a non member
Urjo Health Camp

Health Camp at Lavpur, Shantiniketan

Urjo along with Kolkata Menopause Society, successfully conducted a health camp at Lavpur in Shantiniketan. Physical and medical examination of 45 women were done and blood sugar, Hb% and BMD tests were conducted.Vitals were measured and gynaecological examination was done by the doctors of Kolkata Menopause Society.

Urjo participated in an exhibition organised by Saroj Nalini Dutt Memorial Association on 6th and 7th January, 2023 and received good response. Members exhibited their handicraft items,packed food items and there was also a foodstall selling cooked items
