Our Activities

1st January,2022

Urjo started its activities with a bang on the first day of 2022. At a bustee near Jorabagan Pumping Station, Urjo distributed blankets to the women,500 slices of cake to children and old clothes to the families of this Bustee. Ms Ellora Saha, Councillor of this ward was present for the event.

On the same day ,Urjo also donated 20 blankets and 300 cakes to Kzarvani Foundation for distribution to 4 slums (behind Asutosh College and behind Women’s Christian college). 

6th January,2022

Mataji from Ramakrishna Sarada Mission  Matri Bhavan had requested for medicines for their Hospital where poor women patients are treated. Medicines were donated on 6th January,2022

5th March 2022

Urjo jointly with Kolkata Menopause Society and Bengal Obs and Gynaecology Society organised a Health Camp at Apanghar,an old age home, on Saturday,5th March and conducted the following:

8th March, 2022

Urjo  celebrated International Women's Day on 8th March  with mashimas of Apanghar. A cake was cut and some quality time was spent with mashimas over tea and snacks.

13th March, 2022

Few members of URJO  paid a visit to Aashiyana Happy Home situated in Madhyamgram on 13th March,2022. Urjo donated a few  necessity items(rice, pulses, oil and some books along with stationary items) and spent time with orphaned children staying there. 

25th March, 2022

Urjo organised a memorial service for Manasi Basu, a founder member, on Friday, 25th March,2022 at Mohit Mancha, Paikpara.

28th March,2022

Urjo visited Calcutta Orphanage today and distributed sanitary napkins, geometry boxes, pens and handed over uniforms (which had been tailored before covid).

19th May, 2022

4 residents of Apan Ghar Old Age Home were taken to Lions Eye Hospital at Manoharpukur Road, Kolkata by our members for eye check – up. One of the residents suggested cataract surgery for one eye. Laser was done in another resident's eyes to clean her lens. Two others were recommended for further specialist checkup.

26th May, 2022

Cataract surgery (phaco) was done for a resident of Apan Ghar Old Age Home at Lions Hospital as per doctor’s suggestion. Our members were present throughout the procedure. Medicines were provided and post-operative care explained in details to her by our members

7th June , 2022

As per doctor's recommendation, one of the residents of Apan Ghar Old Age Home was taken for consultation with a Retina Specialist on 7th June, 2022 by Urjo on at Lions Eye Hospital. The patient has glaucoma in both the eyes, right eye is more affected and further follow up is required.

15th June 2022

Urjo donated items of clothing to Saroj Nalini Dutt Memorial Association at Ballygunge Station Road, Golpark. The following clothes were donated in good condition, washed and ironed:

Urjo's new website was soft launched on 29th June, 2022

18th July 2022

Urjo conducted a training programme for Geriatric Care Attendants, from 18th to 20th July,2022 . The inaugural day had video presentations giving an overview of the specific problems related to geriatric patients and the scope of the programme.

24th July 2022

Urjo in collaboration with BOGS and KMS organised a Health Camp at *Bidhan Ananda Ashram, Baranagar, on Sunday, 24th July, 2022 11am onwards* for Urjo members

26th July 2022

Two Urjo members visited Apanghar Briddhawas and spent quality time with the Mashimas and also took sweets and snack items for them. It was a very rewarding experience for Urjo to see their happy faces.

Participation in Urjo's Pujo Programmes: Sharing your joy and happiness with the underprivileged

In keeping with Urjo's philosophy of 'Bhalo Theko, Bhalo Rekho' ( Stay well, keep others well) , we at Urjo, always strive to share our joy and happiness with the underprivileged, especially elderly ladies and children, more so during the festive season

Visit to Aashiyana Happy Home on 18th September

Urjo's Pujo celebrations started today with a visit by some of its members to Aashiyana Happy Home ( Home for the Homeless) at Madhyamgram. Urjo gifted new clothes & goody bags to the children, donated groceries to the orphanage and members spend some quality time with the children .

Pujo Programme in Apanghar Briddhawas at Thakurpukur, Kolkata

As a part of our Pujo Programmes ( for which we have collected funds), a few members visited Apanghar on Friday, 23rd September, 2022. We handed over the saris and spend some quality time with the mashimas and had lunch with them.

Urjo's AGM on 18th October,2022

Urjo's AGM was held today at Altair Boutique Hotel, Kolkata. After the presentations on Annual Activity and Accounts for 2021- 2022, there was a lively discussion on future projects proposals for Urjo. The AGM was followed by an interactive session menopause & breast cancer and cervical cancer and preventive measures for the same.

Christmas Celebration at Apanghar Old Age Home

A few Urjo members visited Apanghar and spent some quality time with the Mashimas. They also distributed cake, fruits, sweets and other savouries on the occasion of Christmas.

Christmas celebration at Nijoloy

On 22nd December, 2022 Urjo organised a Drawing Competition for the girls at Nijoloy, a Home for girls, at Madhyamgram. There were 40 girls, divided into Senior and Junior groups...15 to 18 years and 6 to 15 years respectively.
